Aegean Cuisine

Established since 1932, Stegna Kozas is now run the by third generation of proprietors. It is located at Archangelos beach, about 30 kilometers from Rhodes Town and 18 kilometers from Lindos. The restaurant remains true to the vision of founder Dimitris Kozas with a menu that highlights fish and seafood. Cleanliness, quality, and service are the three pillars of the restaurant’s success.

Greece Is

Not an inch of wall has been left uncovered in this restaurant, which is abundantly adorned with shells, clay cooking pots, garlands and shelves stuffed with all sorts of pantry staples. The owner, Dimitris Kozas, is one of those hyper-creative types, forever rushing in and out of the kitchen, seating guests, serving the complimentary appetizer of sourdough bread with local olive oil and sea salt, and recommending wines. Despite the crush that tends to prevail here, the staff’s good mood is contagious. The fish stew made with the daily catch and seafood is inspired, as are the linguini with sea urchin, the lentil risotto with crispy fried onions, the baby octopus and the fresh shellfish. This is not the place for a quiet meal, but it is one of the island’s best fish restaurants.

Dimitris Kozas is a 3rd generation owner/chef of Stegna Kozas Seafood Restaurant. He’s proud not only of its seaside location at the edge of Stegna, one of the nicest beaches on the island, but also because he counts fishermen among his clientele. He also wants to make sure that you know what you’re there for. “Don’t come here if you want to eat meat or a vegetarian dish,” he says. “There are other restaurants for that. But if you want to eat fish, then we’re the best.” One unsung feature of Kozas taverna is the extensive wine list that includes retsina wine. As there are only 18-20 tables make sure you reserve well ahead.

Galaxias

First of all, this restaurant has a beautiful, ocean-inspired decoration: walls covered with shells, clay cooking pots and ornaments hanging from the roof. Despite being overcrowded, the owner and the staff of this restaurant are very friendly! Stegna Kozas is one of the best fish and seafood taverns of the island, serving fresh fish and local specialties with a sea view. Don’t miss to taste their fish soup, baby octopus and the fish of the day.

Two Cameras and a Bucket List

If you are day tripping down the south-east coast, or perhaps even staying in the area,  then you definitely need to visit Stegna Kozas in the small seaside village of Stegna. The decor is a little quirky and the owner is known to walk around bare-foot but it offers outstanding seafood. Besides, the restaurant is literally built over the water so the views are worth the visit alone.
